Year 6 Leopards 2024 - 2025
Mrs Spyrou and Mrs Humphreys would like to welcome you to the Year 6 Leopards webpage.
SKERN 2025!
The time has finally arrived for our Year 6 children to go on a residential visit to North Devon! They will be staying at Skern Lodge and taking part in lots of different activities. They will be taking part in archery, climbing and abseiling, high ropes, surfing / body boarding, rafting and so much more. We will be updating this webpage back in Rugby as long as there is a good internet connection in Devon. So come back and see what they are getting up to!
Monday 9th June - 9.05am
Good morning to everyone at Skern from us all at Rugby. We hope you have a enjoyable morning and we look forward to seeing you later.
8th June - 21.55pm
From Rugby. Thank you for sharing all the photographs with us, looks great today! Sleep well tonight and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
8th June - 21.45pm
Lots of photographs tonight. Message from Mrs Hope: Today was another awesome day here at Skern! Groups 1, 2 and 3 had a great time surfing this morning. The weather was on our side, the children had a blast learning how to surf and lots of fun was had! Groups 4 and 5 reached new heights, literally on the high ropes course! All children reached new goals and showed determination and overcame their fears.
This afternoon, Groups 1, 2 and 3 felt like superheroes as they scaled the climbing tower and abseiled down with ease! Each of them tried their very best and achieved their personal goals. Meanwhile, Groups 4 and 5 took to the river on their rafts and had a competition to see who could do the best entrance to the water… we won’t mention the belly flops!
This evening, the children worked in their teams to make a waterproof and windproof shelter. The shelters were then tested out as the teachers blasted them ( the shelters and the children) with water pistols! Much fun was had by all!
So, tonight we start to pack our cases, reflect on our time at Skern and think about all the wonderful experiences we have had. As Staff, we are very proud of all of the children and what they each have achieved so far… and we have still one more morning to go!
Sunday 8th June - 9.00am
Good morning to everyone in Skern from us all in Rugby. We hope you slept well and you are ready for another fun packed day! It is good to see the weather report is looking better. Have a great day!
7th June - 21.25pm
Thank you for sharing your day with us back in Rugby. It feels like we are there with you. Great to see so many smiles. Sleep well all ready for more tomorrow.
7th June - 21.15pm
From Mrs Hope: Wow! What a great day we’ve all had at Skern today! Group 4 and 5 did themselves proud when surfing this morning, as they showed perseverance, positive attitudes and most of all they had lots of fun! They were also superstars when climbing and abseiling this afternoon as they were great team mates; offering support, patience and lots of cheers despite the weather! Groups 1, 2 and 3 flew through the air on the zip wire this morning- all working together to support, lift and encourage each other. They also had some more high rope time too, as they had worked so hard and listened well.
This afternoon they showed off their water skills as they went rafting on the River Torridge. The showed real resilience accomplishing paddling together to move their raft, whilst also accomplishing challenging tasks such as jumping off the raft into the river and walking around on the top of the raft! Each and everyone one of them was a superstar!
They are all currently running themselves ragged playing Wild Games! I’m sure tomorrow will be another memorable day for all!
(Please note: If all staff are taking part in wet activities, then I’m afraid we will not have photographs of these activities, due to us being in the sea or on the river. Thank you for understanding.)
7th June - 19.00pm
Not even the rain can stop us from having a great time! Ready to try out surfing!
Saturday 7th June 8.20am
Good morning to everyone at Skern. We hope you slept well and you have had a good breakfast ready for your busy day. Hopefully the weather will improve and you stay dry! We look forward to hearing about your adventures later.
6th June - 21.00pm
From all of us back in Rugby, we wish all of you at Skern, a very good nights sleep ready for all your exciting activities tomorrow.
6th June - 19.55pm
From Mrs Warrington. We've had a very busy day and a long journey down. The children were split into their five groups this afternoon and either took part in Archery and problem solving across the Assault Course which was a challenge testing their abilities on the High Ropes. This evening we are taking part in a Scavenger Hunt and it is great fun outside right now as they find objects of the greatest value for the hunt. We wonder which team will win?
6th June - 13.45pm
They have arrived safe and sound! They will now have time to have a look at their rooms and then they will go straight onto an activity!
Friday Off To Skern!

Today is Antibullying and Odd Socks Day. It is a day when we join together to show that it's okay to be different and to stand up against bullying and discrimination. Some of our class were part of our whole school assembly then we carried on with the learning in our classroom.
Team work makes the dream work. We had to ensure that our whole teams were able to cross the 'swamp' without losing any team members. This involved good communication skills, working together and being aware of everyone. Leopards you were dream teams!
In Science, we have been learning about moon phases. We have really enjoyed our learning. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge the photograph.
We have been practising our shooting skills. We have some very talented netball shooters. Such a fantastic P.E. lesson!
Chess Club has started. We have some fantastic players, who are enjoying playing against each other. Great moves with amazing strategies! Well done everyone.
