The end of the day school bell has rang and now it is time to say goodbye.  Seven years has flown by and we have seen you all grow up and mature and you are ready to go to secondary school.  Goodbye and good luck Year 6 2014.

This morning we were treated to a very special assembly as Year 6 are leaving us to move onto secondary school.  They performed 'old school daze' and were absolutely fantastic. Every word spoken could be heard clearly and the songs were sung beautifully.  Year 6 all have a definite talent for drama! The Mayor of Rugby and Mark Pawsey MP were very impressed and congratulated them all.  We will miss you all so much and wish you every success for your future.  Congratulations Year 6.

17/07/2014 - End of the Year Celebration Assembly

This afternoon it was time to celebrate all the fantastic events that have happened at Eastlands over the last year.  We welcomed the children, parents, staff, governors, the PSA and volunteers.  Achievement of all of the children was celebrated.

Achievement:

In EYFS, 100% of the children have achieved a ‘good level of development’.  In KS1, our high level of achievement continues an de are pleased with the positive impact of 'Accelerated Reader'. Our KS2 attainment is the highest it has ever been. The vast majority of children have made expected progress and the percentages of children making exceeding progress significantly exceeds national, particularly in writing. Congratulations!

Quality of teaching:

Effective marking and accelerated reader have been introduced this year and have made a significant difference to the children's learning.

Behaviour and safety:

The behaviour and safety of pupils at Eastlands remains outstanding, as it was at the time of the last OFSTED inspection. Very positive behaviour, both in lessons, around the school and when out on school visits, contributes to the positive learning ethos and is a strong characteristic of the school.

Leadership and management:

Very effective leadership and management contributes to good (and improving) teaching and a very positive overall experience for pupils. We have just been informed that leadership and management has been given an outstanding judgement by our external consultant

E-Safety and the impact of our cyberbullying film 'The Anti-Social Network' and our travelling theatre 'Not Such a Sweet Tweet' was shared. Year 6 have visited 12 schools in the Warwickshire area to teach their peers about the positive and negative aspects of the internet.  Our E-safety teaching and learning resources have been viewed over 3600 on You tube already! Since November, 11 awards have been achieved! These include awards at local, national and global level.  We have even been featured on BBC Midlands Today and BBC News 24! Year 6 you have been an amazing year group.  You should be extremely proud of what you have achieved over the last 18 months.  You have not only made an impact on our school and our local community but on other children in the UK and in Europe. Many congratulations and very well done to you all.

The last gold awards of the Year were presented.  Well done to India, Lauren and Lauren for this fantastic achievement.  They are looking forward to tea and cakes tomorrow to celebrate.  Congratulations were given to the children who are Accelerated Reader Millionaires!  Some have reached two million and Issy and Emily have reached 3 million words read, brilliant, well done to you all.  India in Year 2 was presented with a very special award too.  India has achieved 100% on every Accelerated Reader quiz she has taken this year, an amazing achievement, well done to you.  There were a lot of children congratulated on their 100% attendance for the whole year, well done!

The development of the school environment were shared.  The ICT suite has been refurbished and is now 'Cyber Central.' The exterior of the building has been painted and new carpets are now in the corridors.  Ceilings and lights have been replaced which has brightened up the classrooms.  Before and After School club has a new home and the new Nursery is getting ready to be opened in September.

Twitter has been a huge success since its launch in September.  We are very close to 2000 tweets!  We have 132 'followers'  and we 'follow' 132 people/organisations which inform us of educational issues.  Please ask to 'follow' us @eastlandsschool.  We have a protected account so please make sure we can identify who you are from your username or come in and see us.

Our new school website was launched in February, just over 5 months ago.  We have already received over 23590 website hits. The most popular page visited has been the news page and Year 1 Rhinos is the post popular class page. The website has been a very successful way to share the fantastic events at Eastlands with the whole school community.

Each class teacher had the opportunity to share and show what a fantastic year they have had with their class.  The photograph montages and soundtracks touched many, including the staff.  A great opportunity to see how our children have grown in so many different ways over the last year. Each teacher will be sorry to say goodbye but all wished the children good luck in their new year group.

Time to look to the future......Achievement -  a new ‘look EYFS’ and accelerating progress of all children. Quality of Teaching-Induction of new staff and the implementation of Effective Maths. Leadership & Management - new National Curriculum, new Assessment Procedures, demonstrating the Impact of additional funding received, SEN reforms, Universal Infant Free School Meals, Tri-lateral Partnership and a new French Language Assistant. 2012 Summer Olympics torch relay

The traditional lighting ceremony took place on 10 May 2012 at the Temple of Hera, Olympia, home of the Ancient Olympic Games.  The torch relay travelled around Greece, before arriving at the Panathinaiko Stadium, in Athens on 17 May for the handover ceremony.

The torch relay will last 70 days, with 66 evening celebrations, six island visits with about 8,000 people carrying the torch a total distance of about 8,000 miles (12,800 km), starting from Land's End in Cornwall.

The torch relay will bring the Olympics to within 1 hour of 95% of the UK population. It is intended to help the London 2012 Olympic Legacy by getting school children, local celebrities and local people involved.

The children and staff of Eastlands Primary School were there!! (Monday 2 July 2012)

The Olympic Torches are made of aluminum alloy skin, perforated by 8,000 circles representing the 8,000 torchbearers who will carry the flame. The triangular-shaped torches represent:

The colour of the torch is gold; this represents the qualities of the Olympic Flame – the brightness and the warmth of the light that it shines. The torch was designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. It stands 80 centimetres (31 in) high, tested to withstand all likely weather conditions. Production of the torches started at the end of 2011.

We will shortly be uploading photographs of the event and links to the official torch relay ‘live feed’  http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/video/

An Olympian Acting Workshop

Thank you to Ellie from Konflux Theatre.

She joined us at the beginning of this Half Term to give our Olympic Learning Challenge a great start.

Each of the classes did workshops with her and performed it to the rest of the school and to parents.

Here are some shots of Year 6 in ACTion!!

OUR ROYAL WEDDING

Thursday 28th April, a bright and breezy day for our wonderful Royal Wedding.

Children from ALL year groups came together to give the whole school and guests a right Royal Wedding performance.

We had it all; a blushing bride, a handsome groom, pretty bridesmaids, a best man, parents of the bride and groom, press photographers, flowers, decorations and confetti.

Our Wedding Official performed the ceremony with much aplomb and we all enjoyed a lovely celebration.

The photographers are processing their photos and the 'Photo Editor' is currently putting together a 'Souvenir Web Page' which will appear here shortly.

Thank you so much to all of our parents; your children looked great in school today and those children who starred in the wedding looked a million dollars!

Here's to the happy couple.

OUR ROYAL WEDDING: The Photos!

Thank you to all the Parents who came to our service; I know the children were really proud of their efforts and loved performing for you all.

Thank you to Jimmy and Abbi for the photos.

Well done.
